(Warning: Written by a sarcastic, extremely annoyed person who now just doesn't care. Don't read this if you don't feel like dealing with baaawing, or if you can somehow muster a respect for an artist's work. ALL of it.)

Dear people of DA,

So it seems that people really like this one picture of mine, cleverly titled "Necrophagio Avoids the Happy" [link]

I posted it about two and a half years ago, and back then I was so proud of it. Now it is only a source of confusion and almost resentment which increases with every comment and fave and view it receives.

According to my Gallery Stats or whatever bullshit Deviant art calls it, it’s my most-viewed and most faved picture. Thing is, the picture is a piece of shit. It gives a terrible perspective of the character featured-Necrophagio (who I have developed so much more since then), and a terrible perspective of my actual abilities (even though back then I obviously drew worse than I do now, even the stuff from around that time is better than THAT goddamn drawing).

I can draw so much better since I posted that picture. Yet most of the people who have commented this picture (aside from the few who frequent my page, whether by choice or otherwise) don't even BOTHER to acknowledge anything else I do. I noted this with my fan art of Linebeck: the people who commented didn’t CARE that I had an actual gallery marking such achievements as successfully making a cloud or keeping my arm still long enough to make a straight line with a pen. They were just interested in the result for their rabid keyword search, probably including the words “sexy, hot, chest hair” and of course a slew of curses which is probably how they found my picture in the first place. Or the word “blah”. Everyone searches for “blah”.

Sure, its nice that the picture’s getting attention like a naked six-year-old galloping across the living room on the family golden retriever, but really, give the other pics a chance. You know, if you have time in your glaze-eyed browsing through DA, and are just bored enough to actually look at my gallery. I mean, God forbid you’re actually INTERESTED in looking at it.

I hope if you read this you at least consider what I’ve said and perhaps even apply it to your browsing. If you actually DO look at people’s galleries after finding a picture you like, then disregard this whole rant and go along your merry way.

PS- The same thing goes with everyone else’s gallery, I’m not just ranting about me. I mean, if you like a picture of theirs, chances are you might just like their whole gallery. Its not like there’s much of a risk in using (literally) two more mouse clicks to glance at their stuff, unless you have a deep fearful believe that one of those next two clicks could break your finger and would rather save them for something so much more important like searching Youtube for your favorite clip of somebody’s balls getting smashed in.
